The Anthea Group has developed a patented, eco-friendly process to manufacture Piperonyl Butoxide (PBO), which is used in a wide range of applications.

PBO is produced in our Group company, Catàsynth, a joint venture with Belgian chemicals major, Solvay.

An insecticide or pesticide used in combination with a synergist like PBO is more resistant to enzymatic breakdown, which increases the effectiveness of crop-protection and pest-control products.

Our PBO finds use in many applications:

Household Insecticide Sprays | Foggers & Dusting Powders | Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Products | Flea and Tick Treatments for Pets | Professional Pest Control Operations | Sprays for Agricultural Crops and Livestock | Vector Control | Mosquito Control Programs etc.

Traditionally, PBO was manufactured through the Sassafras route, which was responsible for the felling of a vast acreage of Sassafras forests in Brazil, China and parts of Southeast Asia.

Catàsynth is only the second company in the world to produce PBO through the sustainable Pyrocatechol route.

We are optimistic that the increasing use of our Pyrocatechol-based PBO will significantly reduce the rampant deforestation that takes place in countries such as Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
